'We all want revenge' - Osayi-Samuel explains why Super Eagles players are hunting for vengeance v GNB
Published: January 20, 2024Bright Osayi-Samuel still doesn't know if he will make his starting debut at the Africa Cup of Nations in Monday's meeting between Nigeria and Guinea Bissau at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium, Abidjan.
The Fenerbahce star has played second fiddle to Ola Aina so far at the AFCON, having come off the bench for his debut in the competition in the 1-1 draw versus Equatorial Guinea and also entered the game as a substitute in the recent win against Ivory Coast.
While Guinea-Bissau have nothing to play for in their final group game as they have already crashed out of the competition after suffering back-to-back defeats, the Super Eagles can top Group A with a win and if Equatorial Guinea lose or draw.
Osayi-Samuel has suggested that all the Super Eagles players are hunting for revenge against Guinea-Bissau.
The Blackpool academy product became cap-tied to Nigeria in an AFCON qualifier against Guinea-Bissau last March and the result of the game did not go down well as the Super Eagles were beaten 1-0 by the visitors.
Speaking to reporters in the mixed zone after the win against the Elephants, Osayi-Samuel said: "It's a very good win especially when a lot of people didn't believe that we can win.
"It's very important because it puts us in a good position in the group and for us to look forward to the last game and obviously we'll win that too.
"With this win now you can see the confidence in the group, even before the game everyone was relaxed. Everyone knew our jobs, what we needed to do.
"Now that we are playing Guinea-Bissau, it's a team that beat us so of course we all want revenge. We know that they are not an easy team."
Osayi-Samuel has appeared in eleven matches for Nigeria's national team, including seven starts.
