Son of Nigeria's 1994 World Cup star makes his debut for Chelsea U21s in 4-1 win v Colchester United

Landon Emenalo, son of Nigeria's 1994 World Cup star Michael Emenalo, made his debut for Chelsea's development squad as they hammered Colchester United 4-1 in an U21 Premier League Cup clash at Kingsmeadow on Monday night.
It was a remarkable feat by the talented midfielder, taking into account that he has yet to make his competitive debut for Chelsea U18s before he was fast-tracked into the U21 setup.
Chelsea U21 head coach Mark Robinson handed starts to three players of Nigerian descent namely Somto Boniface, Richard Olise who is the younger brother of 2021 Super Eagles invitee Michael Olise, and Chinonso Chibueze.
Robinson made a triple change with thirteen minutes left on the clock, one of which saw Emenalo replace Russell-Denny.
The Blues needed less than five minutes to break the deadlock, with Frankie Runham slotting home from the edge of the box.
Chibueze was involved in the build-up to Chelsea's second goal netted by Michael Golding in the 14th minute, before a three-goal lead was established three minutes later courtesy of Silcott-Duberry's strike.
Seven minutes to the end of the contest, an own goal from Frankie Edwards increased Chelsea's lead but Bradley Ihionvien scored a consolation at minute 89 after Boniface had given the ball away.
Emenalo celebrated his 16th birthday last week, meaning he is eligible to sign a scholarship deal with Chelsea for the 2024-2025 season.
