'A familiar face' - Omeruo banking on Peseiro to devise a game plan for Super Eagles to beat Cameroon
Published: January 24, 2024
Speaking after Wednesday's training session in Abidjan, Kenneth Omeruo admitted that he is banking on Super Eagles manager Jose Peseiro to draw up a tactical plan to help the team beat old foes Cameroon on Saturday.
Five-time African champions Cameroon set up a mouth watering clash with neighbors Nigeria after scoring two late goals to beat the Gambia 3-2 in their final group game on Tuesday - a result that saw them finish second in the Group C standings.
A veteran of four Africa Cup of Nations, Omeruo has highlighted that the Super Eagles will come up against a familiar opponent in the Indomitable Lions at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium, Abidjan.
Since the former Chelsea defender made his international debut, Nigeria have faced Cameroon on six occasions, winning three, drawing two and losing just once, meaning the Super Eagles are statistically the favorites heading into the game.
"Obviously Cameroon is a familiar face, they are a country that we have played several times before," Omeruo said.
"We are focused, we are training and by the time the game gets closer we believe in the coaches to provide us with the best tactics to win the game."
Omeruo went on to reveal what the Super Eagles players have resolved to do in their upcoming battle with the Indomitable Lions.
"We are confident. After the last game, we said to ourselves whoever we get next we just have to keep to our game plan and take it one hundred percent and we can beat any team."
The Super Eagles number 22 concluded by sending a message to the Super Eagles fans, urging them to fly to Ivory Coast to support the team.
