Brentford confirmed team news: Super Eagles midfield general Onyeka available to face Liverpool
Published: February 16, 2024
Brentford manager Thomas Frank has confirmed that Super Eagles 2023 Africa Cup of Nations star Frank Onyeka is fit and available for his side's Premier League clash with table toppers Liverpool at the Gtech Community Stadium.
Onyeka played a pivotal role in the Super Eagles' second-place finish in the tournament, starting all games as one of the two central midfielders in the three-time African champion's 3-4-3 formation.
The 26-year-old finished the tournament as the player with the most tackles and interceptions while he also ranked third for most fouls committed.
Brentford will be glad to have the Super Eagles midfield general back unscathed and his return couldn't have come at a better time as they prepare to face one of the most in-form teams in the Premier League.
Delivering an update on the fitness of his players, Thomas Frank revealed that Onyeka and Yoane Wissa, who is also returning from his participation with DR Congo at AFCON, are available for selection for tomorrow's tie with the Reds.
"They've been important and good for us, so it's good to have them in training," he told the club's official website.
"They've come back with energy having had, in many, many ways, fantastic experiences."
"Unfortunately, they finished second and fourth rather than first and third, but we are very proud of them and what they achieved."
Onyeka has struggled to nail down a place in Brentford's starting lineup this season, starting 6 of the sixteen appearances he has made in the Premier League this season.
