Bassey and Iwobi goals stun Old Trafford as Fulham beat Man Utd for the first time in 19 games
Published: February 24, 2024Super Eagles duo Calvin Bassey and Alex Iwobi combined by scoring a goal apiece to help Fulham beat Manchester United 2-1 in a Premier League fixture played at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.
It was Fulham's fist victory over Manchester United in nineteen games across all competitions and their first win at Old Trafford in twenty-one years.
Bassey got his goal in the 65th minute when the ball fell into his path from the corner of Manchester United academy product, Andreas Pereira, and he slotted the ball past the goalkeeper to register his first-ever goal for the Cottagers.
The home side restored parity in the 89th minute through Harry Maguire whose effort deflected past Bernd Leno.
Iwobi would bag the winning goal for the away side in the 97th minute, shooting the ball calmly into André Onana's goal, following a brilliant counterattack by Adama Traore.
Today's appearance against the Red Devils was the duo's first start for Fulham since their return from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Bassey has now established himself as the first-choice left center-back for the Cottagers having started 13 of his seventeen Premier League appearances.
Iwobi on the other hand is also a pivotal player for Fulham, starting 13 of the games he has played for them in the English top flight, registering 5-goal contributions.
