Three hits and three flops from Super Falcons' narrow 1-0 victory over Indomitable Lionesses

The Super Falcons secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over their arch-rivals, the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon, in the second leg of the Olympic qualifiers third round.

The much needed win at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium ensures the qualification of the nine time African Champions to the fourth round of qualifiers where they will square off against the eventual winner between South Africa and Tanzania who will play against each other once more on the 27th of February.

While the win takes them a step closer to their dream of participating in the Paris Olympics, the match also served as a spotlight for both impressive individual performances and areas for improvement.

As the Super Falcons gear up for the next round of the qualifiers, they will need to address these shortcomings while capitalizing on the strengths showcased by the "hits" in this match.

Allnigeriasoccer.com takes a look at three hits and three flops from today's keenly contested encounter at the Abuja National Stadium.

Hits

Esther Okoronkwo:

The young forward emerged as the heroine of the day, grabbing the all-important goal in the 15th minute. Her well-timed runs and clinical finish proved to be the difference-maker in this tight encounter.

Deborah Abiodun:

The workhorse midfielder put in a tireless performance, anchoring the midfield and providing a crucial link between the defense and attack.

Her ability to win tackles and distribute the ball effectively was instrumental in controlling the tempo of the game.

Chiamaka Nnadozie:

The Super Falcons' shot-stopper was once again in top form, making several key saves throughout the match.

Her composure and agility in goal denied the Cameroonian attackers on numerous occasions, ensuring her team's lead remained intact.

Flops

Uchenna Kanu:

Despite her attacking prowess, the winger had a frustrating game, giving away possession cheaply on several occasions.

Her inability to retain the ball effectively hampered the Super Falcons' attacking flow at times.

Michelle Alozie:

While Alozie is usually a reliable defender, her performance in this match fell short of expectations. She struggled to contain the pace and skill of the Cameroonian attackers, and her positioning was questionable at times.

Toni Payne:

The Sevilla star was once again played out of position and like the first leg in Douala, she was absolutely uncomfortable from the beginning up until her eventual substitution.

Although she showed more promise than her substitute Uchenna Kanu, it's obvious she prefers playing from the middle of the park.
