Medical update: Porto's Super Eagles LB Zaidu operated on by Cristiano Ronaldo's most trusted doctor
Published: February 27, 2024Through their official website, Porto have released a medical update on Nigeria international Zaidu Sanusi, stating that the fullback was operated on his left knee on Monday, February 26 at Hospital São Francisco do Porto, in a surgery led by Prof. José Carlos Noronha.
The Primeira Liga giants added that the surgery was uneventful, meaning everything went according to plan.
In his first appearance at club level after representing the Super Eagles at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, Zaidu completely ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament and the external lateral ligament of his left knee in the first half of Porto's 2-0 win over Estrela da Amadora on February 17.
Porto have not provided a timeframe on his return to action, although manager Sérgio Conceição informed that the defender is out for the season and faces a minimum of seven months on the sidelines.
Zaidu was in good hands during the surgery as he was operated on by Prof. José Carlos Noronha, who has been labeled Cristiano Ronaldo's most trusted doctor by celebrated Spanish sports daily Marca.
Regarded as one of the best knee specialists in the world, Dr. Noronha has also operated on Pepe, Radamel Falcao, Hulk, Angel Di Maria, Arjen Robben and Ansu Fati.
Zaidu will not be playing for the Super Eagles when they take on Argentina in a glamour friendly on March 26 and will not be called up for back-to-back 2026 World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin in June 2024.
