England set to provisionally cap-tie Arsenal's Super Falcons-eligible player; called up for U17 Euro qualifiers
Published: March 06, 2024
Allnigeriasoccer.com can exclusively report that the English Football Association have made a concrete move to provisionally cap-tie Arsenal's talented box-to-box midfielder Omotara Junaid.
Junaid is qualified to represent her country of birth United States as well as the Super Falcons and Lionesses by virtue of being born to a Nigerian father and English mother respectively.
Last month, she played for England's U17 national team in the fourth edition of the MIMA Cup but she remained technically eligible to represent the Falconets without needing to request a one-time change of association as the matches were considered friendlies.
Junaid made her full U17s debut against ther Netherlands, was an unused substitute in another win against Philippines and played the role of a super-sub by coming off the bench to score and assist in a 5-0 victory over Scotland to help England win the MIMA Cup.
Having impressed in the tournament, Young Lionesses manager Natalie Henderson has named the tri-national player in the final squad for the 2024 UEFA Women's U17 Championship qualifying competition.
There's no going back on her decision to represent England at youth level as she has accepted the call-up and is currently on her way to the airport, accompanied by her Nigerian dad, to join the Lionesses squad ahead of their trip to Stara Pazova in Serbia.
Junaid would become provisionally cap-tied to England should she feature in any of the matches at the U17 Euro qualifiers.
England will open group play against hosts Serbia on March 10, followed by games against Greece (March 13) and Italy (March 16).
