No podium finish for Butler-Oyedeji as Arsenal announce Goal of the Month winner
Published: March 07, 2024
Nigeria-eligible forward Nathan Butler-Oyedeji has missed out on Arsenal's Goal of the Month award for February 2024.
The Gunners confirmed through their official webpage on Thursday that influential first team midfielder Declan Rice scooped the monthly accolade for his stunning effort against former club West Ham United.
Other nominees for the award included: Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard, Leandro Trossard, Kai Havertz, Alessia Russo, Cloe Lacasse and Osman Kamara.
Butler-Oyedeji was nominated for his goal in Arsenal's 4-2 win against Southampton in the Premier League 2 on February 16.
Two minutes into the contest, the 21-year-old, who is back at Arsenal after spending the first half of the season on loan at Cheltenham Town, opened the scoring by skillfully placing the ball into the top corner after spotting the Southampton goalkeeper out of position.
His goal did not finish in the podium places, with Alessia Russo coming second for her headed goal against West Ham and Cloe Lacasse securing third place for her precise shot against London City Lionesses.
This season, Butler-Oyedeji has participated in seven matches in the Premier League 2, scoring three goals.
The Hale End Academy graduate has yet to receive a call-up to the first team since January 9, 2023 when he was a non-playing substitute in Arsenal's 3-0 win at Oxford United in the third round of the Emirates FA Cup.
