Published: March 08, 2024
Newcastle United U21s are now on a six-game winless run after suffering a 7-1 defeat at the hands of Chelsea in a Premier League 2 match at Whitley Park on Friday night.
Trevan Sanusi made his third start for the Magpies in the Premier League 2 and also making the matchday squad was Chelsea defender Richard Olise, the younger brother of 2021 Super Eagles invitee and Crystal Palace winger Michael Olise.
Chelsea had a dream start when Dylan Williams arrowed a shot into the far corner to open the scoring. but the visitors' lead lasted only three minutes thanks to Sanusi's leveler.
The England U17 international of Nigerian descent raced into the Chelsea box and unleashed a low shot into the bottom left-hand corner.
In the seventeenth minute, Chelsea regained the lead courtesy of Ronnie Stutter.and the score remained unchanged heading into halftime.
Chelsea were quick out of the blocks in the second half and doubled the advantage through Leo Castledine in the 46th minute and he scored again seven minutes later to put the game out of Newcastle's reach.
Dujuan Richards increased Chelsea's lead in the 83rd minute before Stutter and Diego Moreira netted in stoppage time to add more gloss to the scoreline.
Sanusi was linked with London giants Arsenal and Chelsea before Newcastle United won the race for the forward's services last summer.
The 16-year-old will be aiming to follow in the footsteps of the Ameobi brothers who rose through the academy ranks at Newcastle United before going on to make their senior debuts.
