'We'll see for Sunday's game' - Leicester boss provides update on Ndidi ahead of Chelsea clash
Published: March 16, 2024
Leicester City manager Enzo Maresca spoke to the media ahead of his side's mouthwatering Emirates FA Cup clash against Chelsea, where he provided a fitness update on Wlfred Ndidi.
Ndidi is back playing again after spending approximately two months on the sidelines due to a muscle injury that required surgery.
The initial prognosis suggested a three-month layoff but the box-to-box midfielder recovered sooner than expected and has appeared in the last two games played by the Foxes in the Championship.
Ndidi came off the bench for the last eighteen minutes against Sunderland before playing the entirety of the second half in the 2-2 draw with Hull City last weekend.
Maresca admitted that he is being cautious with the fitness of the Nigeria international as he is just returning from injury.
The Italian coach emphasized that Leicester are committed to the well-being of Ndidi as he aims to contribute to the goals of the club in the season run-in.
"We are trying to manage a little bit the situation, to progress a little bit with him," Maresca was quoted as saying by Leicester's official website.
"He played 20-25 minutes against Sunderland and he played 45 in the last game. We’ll see for Sunday’s game.
"With him, with all the injured players, when they are coming back, you have to be a little bit careful. Especially in this moment. We have, I think, just 40 days to go to finish the season."
Ndidi has been named in the latest Nigeria squad for their March internationals against Ghana's Black Stars and Mali's Eagles in Morocco.
