'I would like to stay' - Obi-Martin pledges loyalty to Arsenal amid Borussia Dortmund, Ajax links
Published: March 23, 2024
Denmark U17 international of Nigerian descent, Chidozie Obi-Martin has pledged his loyalty to Arsenal despite interest from top European clubs such as Borussia Dortmund and Ajax Amsterdam.
The 16-year-old has already signed a pre-scholarship contract at the Gunners ahead of next season, a deal that could see him remain at the north London club until at least June 30, 2026.
Obi-Martin is having an incredible season for club and country, leading to speculation over his future as he is ineligible to sign a professional contract until he reaches the age of seventeen in November this year.
In November 2023, the Danish-Nigerian center forward made the back pages after plundering ten goals for Arsenal U16s in a friendly against Liverpool, and has also netted a double brace and hat-trick in competitive games for the Gunners U18s this season.
Obi-Martin is considered one of the top talents in Arsenal's academy but scoring ten goals in a single game ignited the hype around him.
Commenting on his future at Arsenal, Obi-Martin told bold.dk: "I would like to stay at Arsenal for a long time. It's a good club, I can feel that I'm getting much better in training.
"There are a lot of good people and good coaches, so I'm really happy to be there.
"Maybe I will have to play permanently at U21 from next season. There aren't that many strikers in the squad so it will be a good opportunity for me.
"Arsenal is a club that gives young talents the opportunity to play."
Obi-Martin's impressive performances for Arsenal youth teams have not gone unnoticed by manager Mikel Arteta with the Spaniard inviting him to train with the first team several times this season.
