'I am proud' - Sheffield United's Super Eagles-eligible forward happy to play for Denmark
Published: March 25, 2024
Sheffield United's first team forward William Osula says he is delighted to represent Scandinavian giants Denmark at international level.
Born in Aarhus to a Danish mother and a Nigerian father, Osula also qualifies to represent the Nigerian national teams.
He became provisionally cap-tied to his country of birth after making an appearance off the bench in a European Championship qualifier against Lithuania in June 2023.
At the age of 20, Osula has played several games in the Premier League for the Blades, eighteen in total, and netted in back-to-back FA Cup games this season.
He has lived in England for more than seven years, meaning he is also eligible to wear the colours of the 1966 world champions but has indicated that his heart is with Denmark.
Osula along with two other Super Eagles-eligible players in the shape of Patrick Dorgu (Lecce) and Tochi Chukwuani (Lyngby) were named in Denmark U21 squad for the friendly against Austria (March 22) and the European Championship qualifier with Lithuania (March 26).
The Sheffield United starlet has already played in six matches for Denmark U21s but the feeling is the same every time he enters the national team camp.
"I am proud and happy that I can wear the shirt and represent Denmark. It is really great to be part of the national team," Osula said to bold.dk.
On Tuesday evening, Osula will be aiming to score his second international goal for Denmark U21s when they take on Lithuania at Vejle Stadium.
