Confirmed: Premier League's youngest debutant signs professional contract with Arsenal
Published: March 28, 2024
With a statement on their official website, Arsenal have confirmed that England U17 international of Nigerian descent Ethan Nwaneri has signed a new contract with the club.
The 17-year-old, an attacking midfielder and winger by trade, has committed his future to the Gunners by signing his first professional contract, a deal that will keep him at the Emirates Stadium until at least the end of the 2025-2026 season.
Nwaneri joined Arsenal in May 2015, rising through the academy ranks to make his senior debut on September 18, 2022.
Aged 15 years and 181 days, the Anglo-Nigerian became the youngest-ever player to feature in the top-flight of English football after coming off the bench in the closing minutes to replace Fábio Vieira.
Since his historic Premier League debut, he has received six more call ups for first team games and appeared as a substitute during Arsenal's 6-0 win against West Ham United in February 2024.
Nwaneri has impressed this campaign, registering seventeen goal involvements (14 goals, 3 assists) from fourteen appearances for Arsenal youth teams
On the international stage, he was a member of the Young Lions squad to the 2023 Fifa U17 World Cup, where he scored and assisted in England's record 10-0 rout of New Caledonia.
Nwaneri played a key role as the Young Gunners reached the final of the FA Youth Cup last season.
