'His mind has changed' - AC Milan coach reveals why Chukwueze has been in brilliant form in recent weeks

AC Milan boss Stefano Pioli has revealed the reason behind the upturn in form of Super Eagles forward Samuel Chukwueze.

After struggling to find his feet in his first few months at the San Siro, the 24-year-old is beginning to show why the Rossoneri wanted to secure his services so badly in the summer.

He opened his goalscoring account in the Serie A against Hellas Verona, followed it up with another wonderful display against Fiorentina last week and bagged an assist in AC Milan's 3-0 win over Lecce at the San Siro today.

Six minutes into the game, the Nigeria international slipped past two defenders before giving a pass to Christian Pulisic who curled the ball into the net to open the scoring for the home side.

Pioli was pleased with the performance of the 2015 FIFA U17 World Cup winner and revealed why the electric winger has been in brilliant form in recent weeks.

In quotes relayed by pianetamilan, the Italian gaffer said: "His mind has changed. Now he has confidence, he is positive, he believes in what he does.

"Having grown up in condition, he knows better what the team has to do. He knows what he has to do with and without the ball.

"I am very happy for him, he went through a difficult time. From the outside everything seems beautiful, roses and flowers, for kids who also earn a lot of money. He believed in it, he worked a lot and overcame a difficult moment, we are very happy for him: it pleases me, the club, the team."

Chukwueze's assist today was his first in the Italian top-flight since last November but only his second this season which means he has registered one goal and two assists in the league.

AC Milan will be hoping the Nigerian forward can continue with his excellent display as they hope to finish the season strongly.

With the Serie A and the Italian Cup out of sight, the seven-time European champions only hope of silverware is the UEFA Europa League where they have advanced to the quarter-finals and will face fellow Italian side Roma.
