Stina Blackstenius beats Nwaneri to Arsenal Goal of the Month award
Published: April 08, 2024England U17 international of Nigerian descent, Ethan Nwaneri has missed out on Arsenal's Goal of the Month award for March 2024.
The official website of the Gunners revealed on Monday that Sweden international Stina Blackstenius has won March's Emirates Goal of the Month to go alongside her women's Player of the Month award.
Nwaneri had been in the running for the Goal of the Month accolade for his brilliant strike for the Gunners' development side against Chelsea in a Premier League 2 fixture at Kingsmeadow on March 1.
In the 64th minute of the encounter, Nwaneri showed outstanding footwork to dribble past three defenders before picking the bottom right corner to give Mehmet Ali's side a two-goal cushion.
With 40% of the vote, Blackstenius' match-winning strike against Chelsea in the Conti Cup final was chosen by Arsenal supporters as the best goal across all the club's teams, including the first team, women's side and academy.
The other contenders for the Goal of the Month included James Sweet, Frida Maanum, Ben White, Kai Havertz, Leandro Trossard, Theo Julienne and Lotte Wubben-Moy.
Nwaneri, widely regarded as the standout player in the Arsenal academy, received nominations for Arsenal's Goal of the Month in November and December 2022, February, April, August, September, and December 2023, but unfortunately did not clinch the awards.
The Hale End Academy graduate signed his first professional contract with the Gunners last month, a deal that will keep him at the north London club until at least the end of the 2025-2026 season.
