Heung-Min Son beats Ajayi to Tottenham Hotspur's March Goal of the Month
Published: April 10, 2024Promising Nigerian forward Damola Ajayi has missed out on Tottenham Hotspur's Goal of the Month award for March 2024.
The official website of Tottenham confirmed on Tuesday that Heung-Min Son has claimed his fourth Goal of the Month award of the season after his fierce strike against Aston Villa was chosen by the club's supporters as the Goal of the Month for March.
The South Korea and Tottenham captain saw off competition from Damola Ajayi, Timo Werner, Archie Chaplin, James Maddison, and Matilda Vinberg to win the monthly accolade.
Ajayi did not finish in the podium places, with James Maddison and Matilda Vinberg coming second and third respectively in a poll on Tottenham's official website and application.
The Nigerian striker was shortlisted for his stunning match-winning goal for the development squad in their 2-1 victory over Middlesbrough U21 in a Premier League 2 game on March 17.
Ajayi nicked the points for the visitors when he slotted home via a deflection after Rio Kyerematen picked up a loose ball and laid it to him.
In the ongoing season, he has been directly involved in eighteen goals (11 goals, 7 assists) in a combined total of 21 matches, which include appearances in the U18 Premier League, Premier League 2, EFL Trophy and FA Youth Cup.
Ajayi signed his first professional contract with Tottenham Hotspur in January 2024.
