Jhafets Reyes: Ecuador hand youth team call-up to Cartagena GK who's also eligible for Nigeria, Spain
Published: April 10, 2024The Ecuadorian Football Federation have made the first move to beat Nigeria and Spain to the services of promising FC Cartagena goalkeeper Jhafets Christ Dick Reyes, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
Reyes has been handed a call-up to Ecuador's U18 national team ahead of three international friendlies at the end of the month.
The UEFA friendly tournament will hold in Turkey with the Ecuadorians facing Guatemala (April 22), Slovakia (April 24) and Morocco (April 27) at the Emirham Sports Center Stadium in the city of Antalya.
Reyes was born in the Spanish city Murcia to a Nigerian father and Ecuadorian mother seventeen years ago, making him eligible to represent the Super Eagles, La Roja and La Tricolor at international level.
The right-footed goalkeeper has received sixteen call-ups for LaLiga 2 matches in the ongoing season and played in six matches for Cartagenta B in the Segunda Federación - Gr. IV, keeping a clean sheet while conceding nine goals.
Despite his young age, he is the third choice goalkeeper at FC Cartagena and frequently trains with the first team.
Before his first call-up to the Ecuador national team, he was on the radar of the Royal Spanish Football Federation who named him in a provisional squad for a youth team training camp.
Reyes played for CD Mediterraneo and the beach soccer team of the city of Murcia prior to transferring to FC Cartagena in 2023.
