Ajayi takes his season tally to 12 goals and 7 assists for Tottenham Hotspur youth teams
Published: April 13, 2024Nigerian forward Damola Ajayi has taken his goal involvements to nineteen for Tottenham Hotspur youth teams after finding the net for the U18s in a 4-3 loss to Fulham in an U18 Premier League fixture at Hotspur Way on Saturday afternoon.
Ajayi is enjoying a breakout season at Tottenham and was rewarded with his first professional contract back in January after his outstanding displays for the academy teams.
Three players with Nigerian heritage were named in the starting lineup, with Callum Olusesi and Ajayi starting for Tottenham and ex-Chelsea schoolboy Chibuzo Nwoko starting for the Cottagers.
Thomas Olyott gave Fulham a perfect start as he opened the scoring inside two minutes but Ajayi restored parity at the half hour mark.
Fulham goalkeeper pulled off an outstanding save to deny Olusesi, but Ajayi capitalized on the rebound and converted, before Mikey Moore scored from the spot to give Tottenham a 2-1 lead at the interval.
In the second half, Fulham regained the momentum, with Al-Wahid grabbing a brace and Zepa Macauley also getting on the scoresheet, while Ellis Lehane netted Spurs' third goal.
Ajayi has directly participated in ten goals (7 goals, 3 assists) in the U18 Premier League, has registered six goal involvements (3 goals, assists) in the Premier League 2 and contributed to three goals (2 goals, 1 assist) before Tottenham exited the FA Youth Cup.
He is highly thought of by the first team coaches at Tottanham, given that he trained with the senior players before the squad traveled to Australia and Asia for pre-season matches ahead of the 2023-2024 campaign.
