Contract extension yet to be triggered: Nottingham Forest risk losing Super Eagles star Ola Aina for free
Published: April 16, 2024
Allnigeriasoccer.com can exclusively report that English Premier League club Nottingham Forest risk losing Nigeria's 2023 Africa Cup of Nations star Ola Aina for free at the end of the 2023-2024 season.
The Chelsea academy product became Nottingham Forest's first signing last summer after putting pen to paper on a one-year deal, with options for the future also agreed in the contract.
This website can report with certainty that the two-time European champions have not yet activated the option to extend Aina's stay at the City Ground, which puts his future up in the air around one month to the end of the Premier League season.
Aina arrived at Nottingham Forest on a free transfer following the expiry of his contract with Torino, where he spent five years.
He has caught the eye with his performances for the Reds, winning the club's Player of the Month for September 2023 and Goal of the Month for November 2023.
Overall, the Super Eagles star has played in eighteen matches in the Premier League this term, including sixteen starts.
Aina will mull over his options in the coming weeks if his contract is not extended by Nottingham Forest.
Given his versatility and being a homegrown player, the London-born fullback will undoubtedly have plenty of suitors in the Premier League.
Aina shone at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations and earned a spot in the Team of the Tournament due to his outstanding performances for a defensively strong Super Eagles squad.
