Chelsea star Cole Palmer scores 4 goals in a PL game: 1994 AFCON winner Ekoku was the first player to do so
Published: April 16, 2024
England international Cole Palmer was the star of the show as Chelsea registered a comprehensive 6-0 win over Everton in a Premier League game at Stamford Bridge on Monday night.
Palmer is having an outstanding season following his move from Manchester City last summer.
The 21-year-old is the first Chelsea player to score in seven consecutive Premier League games at Stamford Bridge.
Moreover, he has surpassed the 20-goal mark in a single season, a feat not achieved by any Chelsea player since Eden Hazard in 2018-2019.
Palmer added his name to the exclusive list of players who have scored a double brace in a single Premier League game.
Nigeria's 1994 Africa Cup of Nations winner Efan Ekoku made history by becoming the first player to net four goals in a single Premier League match, achieving this milestone in Norwich's impressive 5-1 victory against Everton on September 25, 1993 at Goodison Park.
Ekoku joined the Canaries on March 26, 1993 after spells with Sutton United and Bournemouth.
Another retired Nigeria international, Yakubu Aiyegbeni achieved the feat on two different occasions while representing two different clubs.
Yakubu, Nigeria's highest goalscorer in Premier League history, recorded a four-goal haul during Portsmouth's 5-1 hammering of Middlesbrough on May 15, 2004 and repeated the feat on December 3, 2011 when he was playing for Blackburn Rovers.
