Wrexham face PL, Championship competition for Arsenal-owned League Two best GK Okonkwo
Published: April 20, 2024
Wrexham will have to beat Premier League and Championship clubs to the signing of Super Eagles-eligible goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo, according to The Daily Mail.
The 22-year-old's stock is on the rise after an impressive outing with Wrexham, helping the Wales-based club gain promotion to the League One and was named in the League Two Team of the Season.
Having impressed in his loan spell, the Red Dragons are ready to sign the Arsenal-owned goalkeeper permanently but now faces stiff competition from Premier League and Championship clubs.
It remains to be seen whether Okonkwo will be willing to extend his stay with Phil Parkinson's side or move elsewhere particularly when he has suitors from clubs in higher tiers.
There is also a reported interest from outside England after previously impressing with Austrian outfit Sturm Graz, winning his first silverware at the club.
His contract with Arsenal ends in the summer and with no indication that he will get a contract extension, no compensation will be paid by any club that grabs his signature.
With a lot of interest in his services, Okonkwo will have to be careful in choosing his next destination if he is to continue with his progression.
