Nigerian exports: Dessers the hero for Rangers; Ejuke nets winner for Antwerp; Lecce's Dorgu taps in
Published: April 21, 2024Allnigeriasoccer.com's review of the Nigerian players that found the net for their respective foreign clubs in league and cup matches on Sunday, April 21.
Cyriel Dessers was the hero for Rangers as they defeated Heart of Midlothian 2-0 to set up a meeting with bitter rivals Celtic in the final of the Scottish FA Cup.
It took the Nigeria international five minutes to break the deadlock, firing low under Craig Gordon after poor defending from Hearts.
Dessers bagged his second of the game with twelve minutes remaining when he converted at the second attempt after his first shot was saved..
His brace took his tally for the season to nineteen goals in 48 all-competition appearances; he has also produced eight assists.
In the Italian Serie A, Denmark youth international Patrick Dorgu was among the scorers as Lecce thrashed Sassuolo 3-0 at Mapei Stadium - Città del Tricolore.
Dorgu gave the Giallorossi a two-goal lead in the fifteenth minute when he tapped in from close range after a cross into the box by Antonino Gallo.
The left-back, who has been linked with a plethora of clubs in Italy and England ahead of the summer transfer window, has netted twice in the Italian top-flight this term.
After three consecutive defeats without finding the net, Royal Antwerp secured their first win in the Jupiler Pro League Championship playoffs thanks to Chidera Ejuke, who netted the game-winning goal in a 1-0 victory over Cercle Brugge at the Jan-Breydel-Stadion.
In the 66th minute, Cercle Brugge goalkeeper Warleson could not save Ejuke's powerful shot from a difficult angle.
Ejuke has directly participated in eleven goals (5 goals, 6 assists) in 34 games since landing at Antwerp on loan from Russian club CSKA Moscow.
In the Serbian Superliga relegation round, Collins Atule netted his first senior goal for FK Spartak Subotica as they defeated FK Javor Ivanji 1-0 at the Gradski Stadion (Subotica).
Seven minutes after his introduction, Atule scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in the 62nd minute with a fantastic header that goalkeeper Lazar Raičević stood no chance of saving.
The former Lobi Stars striker has been promoted to FK Spartak Subotica's first team on the back of his outstanding displays for the U19s in the Omladinska liga Srbije.
