Two former Super Eagles invitees named in Premier League Team of the Week
Published: April 22, 2024Two former Super Eagles invitees in the shape of Michael Olise and Eberechi Eze have been named in Whoscored.com Premier League Team of the Week for gameweek 34 following their outstanding displays for Crystal Palace in their 5-2 hammering of West Ham United at Selhurst Park.
2021 Super Eagles invitee Olise and Eze, who was called up for a Nigeria training camp in London seven years ago, directly participated in four of the five goals scored by Crystal Palace, with each contributing a goal and assist.
France U21 international Olise headed Crystal Palace into a seventh minute lead before Eze crashed in an overhead kick to double the advantage at minute 16.
Olise and Eze provided the assists for Jean-Philippe Mateta's goals in the 31st and 64th minute respectively.
Olise registered four shots with two on target, completed 87.5 percent of his passes, won two aerial duels, completed two take-ons and won a game-high three fouls for the Eagles.
Despite an injury-plagued season that has limited his appearances to fourteen in the Premier League, the winger has caught the eye with eleven goal involvements (7 goals, 4 assists) so it is no wonder he is being linked with possible moves to Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool in the summer transfer window.
In a 4-4-2 formation, Olise s joined in central midfield by Eze, with Liverpool's Cody Gakpo and Brentford's Cameroonian star Bryan Mbeumo taking up the wide midfield positions.
Arijanet Muric (Burnley), Lorenz Assignon (Burnley), Ethan Pinnock (Brentford), James Tarkowski (Everton), Sergio Reguilon (Brentford), Yoane Wissa (Brentford) and Jean-Philippe Mateta (Crystal Palace) are the other players named to the Team of the Week.
