Brighton, Brentford handed boost in pursuit of Nigerian winger as Romanian champions end interest
Published: April 29, 2024FCSB have ended their interest in signing Philip Otele, who is attracting concrete interest from Premier League club Brighton & Hove and has been scouted by Brentford.
The two Premier League clubs have been handed a boost in their pursuit of the Nigerian winger, with the newly crowned Romanian champions pulling out of the race for his signature due to concerns over his valuation.
Gigi Becali, the owner of FCSB, revealed that the proposed transfer of CFR Cluj star Philip Otele, who is wanted in the Premier League, has fallen through.
He further stated his lack of interest in signing Otele as he is unwilling to part with even a single cent.
CFR Cluj owner Ioan Varga has been contacted by Brighton & Hove regarding the transfer of Otele.
The Railwaymen have demanded £6m, almost €7m plus 20% of the sell-on fee if Otele departs the Seagulls before the expiration of his contract.
Gigi Becali does not want to overpay for Otele who will enter the final year of his contract with CFR Cluj in July, although the deal includes the option of an additional season.
"How did I say that I hit Otele? A million, and then 800,000. Now I don't give 500,000 on him. Nothing with us, nothing with Craiova, nothing with Rapid," Gigi Becali was quoted as saying by ProSport.
"Well... So, I'm not interested anymore, not that I give that much or that much. I would take him if it was free, but not to pay money for him."
Otele is a having a banner season for CFR Club and has put himself in the shop window after registering nineteen goal involvements (13 goals, 6 assists) over the course of the regular season.
