Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey nominated for Fulham Player of the Month
Published: April 30, 2024
Super Eagles center-back Calvin Bassey has been nominated for Fulham's Player of the Month for April.
Bassey is in the running with former Manchester United midfielder Andreas Pereira, João Palhinha and Rodrigo Muniz for the award.
It was a poor month for the Cottagers who won one, drew one and lost three games, scoring five goals and conceding eight.
Despite their poor run, Bassey has been singled out as one of the shining lights, having started and completed all the games played in the April, being the only center back to do so.
The 24-year-old has been one of the mainstays in Marco Silva's backline this season, failing to start eight Premier League games that he has been named in the matchday squad.
He also played a vital role in their run to the Carabao Cup semifinal, starting three games but was absent for their two-legged semifinal clash with Liverpool due to his participation at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Undoubtedly, the Nigeria international has had a good first season at the Craven Cottage, a stark contrast to his stay at Dutch giants Ajax where he was always under scrutiny.
He has made 29 appearances across all competitions for Fulham this term and has scored one goal which he bagged against Manchester United in a Premier League fixture in February.
