Ajax Amsterdam eye Barcelona SC wonderkid as potential replacement for wantaway striker Akpom
Published: May 02, 2024Ajax Amsterdam are interested in signing Barcelona SC wonderkid Allen Obando as a potential replacement for Chuba Akpom who has made it clear that he wants to leave the Eredivisie giants at the end of the season.
According to Machdeportes via Footballtransfers, presidential candidate Antonio Alvarez has confirmed that Obando is on the wishlist of several European clubs not limited to Ajax, Paris Saint-Germain , Torino and RB Salzburg.
The 17-year-old Allen Obando is one of the top talents in Ecuadorian football and has caps for Ecuador's U17, Olympic and senior national teams
He has already played for Barcelona SC in the Copa Libertadores and has one goal and two assists in seven games played in the 2023-2024 season.
Ajax fear they could lose two strikers in the summer transfer window, with Akpom not satisfied with his bit part role and has expressed his desire to leave Amsterdam after just one season while Netherlands international Brian Brobbey is attracting interest from some Premier League clubs.
The Nigerian attracted concrete interest from Nottingham Forest and Fulham in the January transfer window but Ajax blocked his return to England.
A product of the Arsenal academy, Akpom transferred to Ajax from Middlesbrough FC last summer after a breakout season that saw him score a career best 29 goals in all competitions.
The 28-year-old has mustered 14 goals since landing in the Netherlands despite his limited game time.
