Retained and released list: Wrexham mum on the future of Arsenal goalkeeper Okonkwo
Published: May 03, 2024
Through a statement on their official website, Wrexham published their retained and released list on Friday morning, following the conclusion of the 2023-2024 season.
The Red Dagrons earned back-to-back promotions after finishing second in the fourth tier of English football in the recently concluded season.
Wrexham have not provided an update on the future of Nigerian goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo, who spent the entirety of the 2023-2024 season on loan at the Welsh club.
The future of the Hale End Academy graduate has been the subject of speculation in recent weeks, with his contract at Arsenal set to run out on June 30, 2024.
Wrexham have not clarified whether Okonkwo is returning to his parent club Arsenal or remaining at STōK Cae Ras next season.
Okonkwo has been spotted in Las Vegas, along with Wrexham players, celebrating the club's return to the League One for the first time in nineteen years.
Wrexham are keen to sign Okonkwo on a permanent deal but face competition from Premier League and Championship clubs.
The 22-year-old was one of the standout players for Wrexham as they sealed promotion to the League One, posting fourteen clean sheets in 36 matches and was named in the League Two Team of the Season.
Prior to his temporary transfer to Wrexham, he spent time on loan with Crewe Alexandra and Sturm Graz.
