U18 PL: Obi-Martin, Olusesi and Ajayi on target as Tottenham beat local rivals Arsenal
Published: May 04, 2024Three players of Nigerian descent were on target as Tottenham Hotspur defeated Arsenal 3-2 in the U18 Premier League on Saturday afternoon at Hotspur Way.
Cullum Olusesi, Damola Ajayi and Miracle Adewole started for Tottenham, while Chido Obi-Martin, Cameron Ismail and Ife Ibrahim were in action for the Gunners from the off.
Olusesi, wearing a protective mask after suffering an injury against Crystal Palace in an U21 game on Monday, broke the deadlock after 21 seconds when he fired low into the bottom corner, assisted by Adewole.
On 65 minutes, Obi-Martin converted a spot kick to bring the game back to parity before Michal Rosiak scored in the 68th minute to turn the game around.
The Denmark U17 international of Nigerian descent has now scored in eight consecutive matches in the U18 Premier League, tallying a remarkable total of 25 goals across these fixtures.
Last weekend, Obi-Martin broke Folarin Baogun's record as the highest scoring Arsenal player in the U18 Premier League in a single season.
Ajayi fired home an equalizer with three minutes left on the clock after he was fed by Akhamrich, before Willhoft-King scored what proved to be the winning goal in the first minute of stoppage time.
In their last match of the season, Arsenal host Chelsea on May 11, while Tottenham Hotspur face West Ham United in another London derby.
