Super Eagles injury curse gets worse: After Onyemaechi and Chukwueze, Osimhen suffers same fate

Nigeria boss Finidi George is sweating on the fitness of another Italian-based Super Eagles player, with Napoli striker Victor Osimhen the latest injury concern ahead of his squad announcement for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against South Africa's Bafana Bafana and Benin's Cheetahs, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.

Samuel Chukwueze has been rated as doubtful for the double-header due to an injury to the hamstring of the left thigh he suffered during the first half of AC Milan's 5-1 win against Cagliari on Saturday. 

Empoli right-back Tyronne Ebuehi will not play again this season after suffering a partial tear of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee back in March.

Napoli have announced that Victor Osimhen did not participate in full training with the rest of his teammates on Monday. 

The reigning African Footballer of the Year underwent recovery work for a muscle strain, putting him in doubt to face Fiorentina in the 37th round of matches in the Serie A.

Finidi has some big calls to make ahead of his squad announcement, with some players either injured or lacking match fitness.

Apart from Ebuehi, Chukwueze and Osimhen, Moses Simon and Zaidu Sanusi are all but ruled out of the World Cup qualifiers as they are currently sidelined with long-term injuries. 

Boavista fullback Bruno Onyemaechi  is unlikely to play again this season after being diagnosed with an injury to his left knee that saw him miss the last two games contested by the Panthers in the Liga Portugal.

Defenders William Troost-Ekong, Jamilu Collins and Semi Ajayi are lacking match fitness ahead of the World Cup qualifiers. 

On a positive note, Turkish-based duo Bright Osayi-Samuel and Paul Onuachu are back in action after injury scares.
