Team news: Manu Garba likely to stick with almost the same starting lineup; Abdulganiyu still injured
Published: May 21, 2024
Allnigeriasoccer.com understands that Golden Eaglets head coach Manu Garba is likely to stick with the same set of players that registered a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Republic of the Niger when his side face off with Togo in their final group game of the 2024 WAFU B U17 Championship on Wednesday.
The Nigeria manager will not be able to count on the services of Okorie Chibuike who is not available for selection as a result of his dismissal in the second half of the clash versus Niger.
It is all but confirmed that left winger Ibrahim Abdulganiyu is not in the plans of Manu Garba for tomorrow's clash in Accra due to injury.
Contrary to misleading reports in the local press, allnigeriasoccer.com can report with certainty that Abdulganiyu's possible exclusion from the gameday squad to face Togo is unrelated to any controversy regarding his ownership.
The highly-rated forward was a shadow of himself during Nigeria's goalless draw versus Burkina Faso in their opening match of the tournament and it later came to light that he was playing through the pain barrier.
Abdulganiyu did not train fully with his teammates in the lead up to the second group game against Niger and has been training individually before the meeting with Togo.
Heading into the fixture against Togo, five-time world champions Nigeria are second in Group B with four points, same as table-toppers Burkina Faso, who are a goal better off.
The Golden Eaglets must better the result of Burkina Faso to avoid a potential meeting with Ghana in the semifinals of the WAFU B U17 Championship.
