Confirmed: Younger brother of 2021 Super Eagles invitee signs new contract with Chelsea
Published: May 21, 2024
Through a statement on their official website, Chelsea have announced that Richard Olise, the younger brother of 2021 Super Eagles invitee Michael Olise, has signed a new deal with the club.
The talented defender has committed his future to the London-based side by signing a one-year contract extension which includes an option to extend for a further year.
His initial contract was supposed to expire in the summer but the Blues have now taken a proactive step to keep the right-back for another year at least.
He got promoted to the U21s this term on a permanent basis but couldn't nail a regular spot in the team, which might explain the reason he made just 14 appearances across all competitions in the recently concluded season.
Olise came on as a second half substitute for Josh Acheampong as they lost to Tottenham in the semifinal of the Premier League 2 play off on Sunday, thereby missing the opportunity to win his first title with Mark Robinson's side.
Olise joined Chelsea as an Under-9 and has progressed through the ranks- he made his debut for the U18s in the 2021/2022 season and played for them till the 2022-2023 campaign.
Due to his few opportunities with the development side, he featured in one U18 Premier League last term and will now be hoping to get more opportunities with the U21s next season.
