Chelsea and Manchester United pushing to sign former Super Eagles invitee
Published: May 25, 2024
The future of 2021 Super Eagles invitee Michael Olise continues to dominate the back pages despite being contracted to Crystal Palace until June 30, 2027.
Despite a season blighted by injuries, the quad-national winger was in splendid form in the Premier League, registering sixteen goal involvements (10 goals and 6 assists) in nineteen outings.
According to Italian transfer market specialist Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea and Manchester United are the two prominent clubs pushing to sign the France U21 international in the summer transfer window.
Chelsea already have Raheem Sterling, Mykhailo Mudryk and Noni Madueke in their ranks and it is anticipated that at least one of the three wingers would have to be moved on if a deal for Olise is to be finalized.
The Blues squad could be overflowing with wingers next season, especially as Cole Palmer and Christopher Nkunku can play in that position and Morocco international Hakim Ziyech still has a valid contract with the club.
Manchester United see Olise as an upgrade on Brazilian Antony who has not lived up to expectations since his move to Old Trafford from Dutch giants Ajax Amtserdam, scoring only 11 goals in 82 matches.
If Olise were to join Manchester United, he would face less competition compared to Chelsea, which could influence his decision on his next club.
The Anglo-French-Nigerian-Algerian player was on the books of Chelsea for seven years as a schoolboy before he was released.
Olise signed a contract extension at Crystal Palace last summer and the new deal includes a release clause of 60 million pounds.
