Talented Nigerian forward Damola Ajayi has won the Premier League 2 playoff final with Tottenham Hotspur, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
The 18-year-old hopped off the bench in the second minute of stoppage time to replace Tyrese Hall as Tottenhem Hotspur defeated Sunderland 3-1 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday.
Sunderland's Belgium youth international of Nigerian descent Trey Samuel-Ogunsuyi was in action for the entire duration of the game.
Premier League 2 Player of the Season and top goalscorer, Will Lankshear added to his tally with a close range finish in the 39th minute to give Tottenham Hotspur the lead.
Just past the hour mark, Lankshear dispatched past Richardson to double the advantage, before George Abbott increased the lead in the sixth minute of stoppage time.
The Black Cats managed to pull a goal back deep into injury time as Tutierov capitalized on Watson's shot with a tap-in from close range.
Ajayi was part of the Tottenham Hotspur squad that won the U17 and U18 Premier League Cup double in 2022-2023, and appeared in six league matches for the U21s in the regular season.
The 18-year-old mustered sixteen goals and registered eight assists across the U18 Premier League, Premier League 2 and FA Youth Cup over the course of the 2023-2024 campaign.
Former Chelsea goalkeeper Kelechi Chibueze was an unused substitute for Sunderland in the Premier League 2 playoff final.
