Chelsea join Tottenham Hotspur in race for N122b-rated Super Eagles-eligible forward
Published: June 08, 2024
According to talkSPORT, Chelsea are in the running alongside Tottenham for the signing of Super Eagles-eligible striker Dominic Solanke.
Solanke has a £65 million (approximately N122 billion in Nigerian currency) release clause embedded in his contract with Bournemouth, but only valid for the so-called big six clubs in the Premier League.
It is no secret that the Blues are in search of a striker following a disappointing campaign and have been linked with a host of names including Super Eagles star Victor Osimhen.
However, they have stopped their pursuit of the reigning African Footballer of the Year and are now targeting other forwards, one of which is Solanke.
The Bournemouth marksman has become a hot property with his performance in the last campaign which saw him emerge as one of the best attackers in the Premier League.
He bagged 19 goals for the Cherries which was more than any other player in the English top-flight besides Erling Haaland, Cole Palmer and Alexander Isak.
Having achieved such a feat for a Bournemouth side that finished 12th, there is the possibility of him getting better if he joins a better team, which might explain Chelsea and Tottenham's interest.
The 26-year-old is a product of the Blues academy but made just one appearance for the first team before he joined Liverpool in 2017 and having become a better player, a return to the Stamford Bridge could be on the cards.
