U17 WWC Nigeria 2 Liberia 0: Star in the making Harmony Chidi takes tally to 12 goals after brace
Published: June 14, 2024
The Flamingos defeated Liberia U17s 2-0 in the second leg of the final qualification round of the 2024 FIFA U17 Women's World Cup played at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abuja on Friday evening.
Coach Bankole Olowokoore made no changes to the side that started the first leg at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Stadium, Monrovia on Sunday.
As early as the 4th minute, Chidi Harmony opened the scoring to make it two goals in two games against Liberia and five in her past three.
Peace Effiong came close to doubling the lead in the 18th minute but was denied by a goal line clearance.
Harmony came close to getting her second of the game in the 25th minute but her effort was easily saved by the Liberian goalkeeper.
Ten minutes before half time, she would come close to scoring again when she was set up by Effiong but she shockingly missed the clear cut opportunity.
At the hour mark, Harmony came close to finding the back of the net but couldn't bury the opportunity before she eventually doubled the lead in the 71st minute to rubber stamp Nigeria's victory.
Chidi plundered twelve goals in the qualifiers, comprising five against Central Africa Republic, four against Burkina Faso and three in the 6-1 aggregate win over Liberia.
The result means the Flamingos have sealed their place at the U17 Women's World Cup that will take place at Dominican Republic later this year.
