Sweden make move to cap-tie daughter of ex-Super Eagles striker as AC Milan star earns first senior call-up
Published: June 19, 2024
The Swedish Football Association are ahead of their Nigerian counterparts in the race for the services of talented AC Milan striker Evelyn Ijeh, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
Evelyn is the daughter of retired Super Eagles attacker Peter Ijeh, who turned out for Malmo, IFK Göteborg, FC Copenhagen and Viking during his playing days.
The 22-year-old has received her first-ever call-up to Sweden's national team ahead of 2025 European Championship qualifying matches against France and England.
Evelyn Ijeh is one of the two new faces manager Peter Gerhardsson has picked in his squad list announced on Wednesday, the other being Häcken's Felicia Schröder.
Gerhardsson highlighted that the Swedish-Nigerian forward has earned her first senior call-up on the back of her impressive performances for the U23 national team and AC Milan.
In the past season, she scored three goals in twelve appearances in the Serie A Women.
Ijeh is already provisionally cap-tied to Sweden after playing competitive matches for their U17 and U19 national teams.
Playing in the matches against France on July 12 or England on July 16 will make the 22-year-old Malmo native cap-tied to her country of birth, Sweden.
Evelyn and her younger sister Josephine Ijeh trained with the Super Falcons in Vienna, Austria in the summer of 2021, before the Aisha Buhari invitational tournament.
