Chelsea starlet Omari Hutchinson set to break Ipswich Town transfer record held by Finidi George
Published: June 30, 2024
According to various reports in the English media, including BBC, Premier League new boys Ipswich Town are on the verge of announcing the signing of Chelsea starlet Omari Hutchinson.
Having spent the whole of last season on loan at the Tractor Boys, the Jamaica international is returning for a second spell at Portman Road, subject to a traditional medial.
Hutchinson contributed eleven goals and six assists in fifty matches over the course of the 2023-2024 campaign.
If the deal goes through as anticipated, Hutchinson will become the most expensive player signed by Ipswich Town, with Chelsea set to receive 20 million pounds for agreeing to terminate the contract of the right winger two years before its expiration.
The 20-year-old will also smash a transfer record that stood for almost twenty-three years.
Nigeria legend Finidi George currently holds the record of being the most expensive winger acquired by Ipswich Town, moving to the Blues from RCD Mallorca in exchange for 3.1 million pounds in August 2001.
A Champions League winner with Ajax Amsterdam in 1995, Finidi scored twice on his home debut as Ipswich Town defeated Derby County 3-1.
Overall, the former Super Eagles coach appeared in forty six official matches during his time at Ipswich Town, scoring eight goals while providing an assist.
