No exceptions will be granted: Napoli boss Conte expects Osimhen to report for pre-season training
Published: July 07, 2024
The future of Victor Osimhen is yet to be resolved, few days before Napoli start pre-season preparations under the guidance of new manager Antonio Conte.
The reigning African Footballer of the Year signed a new contract with Napoli last December, but there was a gentleman's agreement for him to depart the Diego Maradona Stadium this summer.
Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United and Arsenal have been credited with an interest in Osimhen in recent weeks but the stumbling block to a deal is the striker's release clause of 130 million euros.
According to Naples-based Italian newspaper Il Mattino, via Spazio Napoli, Antonio Conte expects Osimhen to report for pre-season preparations, though the Italian coach is aware of the possible departure of the Nigerian from the Parthenopeans in the summer transfer window.
The Napoli number 9 is awaiting an update from his agent Roberto Calenda about his future.
"Next week Conte is expecting him at the rally: as long as he is a Napoli player, the coach wants him at the centre of his attack. Without ifs and buts. No exceptions will be granted, at least not for now," Il Mattino wrote.
Since landing at Napoli from Lille in 2020 for a Nigerian transfer record, Osimhen has mustered 76 goals in 133 appearances, while producing eighteen assists.
Clubs in the Saudi Pro League are also monitoring the situation of the former Wolsburg and Sporting Charleroi striker.
