Subuloye breaks his silence after signing new contract with Chelsea
Published: July 17, 2024
Eastbourne-born Nigerian defender Tayo Subuloye has taken to social media to break his silence after committing his future to Premier League giants Chelsea by signing a new contract.
Chelsea confirmed the new academy scholars for the 2024-2025 season on Friday, July 12, with Subuloye and Landon Emenalo, son of retired Nigeria international left-back Michael Emenalo, part of the intake.
Subuloye is guaranteed a professional contract as soon as he turns seventeen on December 18, 2024.
The Blues saw off competition from several Premier League clubs to tie down the highly-rated young defender to a new contract.
In his final season as a schoolboy, he made his competitive debut in the U18 Premier League and was a key member of the side that won the U17 Premier League Cup.
Originally a midfielder, Subuloye is comfortable playing in several defensive positions including centre-back.
He joined Chelsea at U12 level, after previously wearing the colours of Brighton & Hove at youth level.
The Anglo-Nigerian teenager captained Chelsea to victory at the U16 Premier League National Championships in October 2023 and was promoted to first team training in February 2024.
In a message posted on his Instagram page on Wednesday, July 17, Subuloye said: "Delighted to sign my scholarship with @chelseafc Incredibly proud moment for me and my family. Looking forward to continuing my journey here."
