'It'll be interesting' - Chelsea's new no. 4 Tosin eager to face Manchester City, Real Madrid
Published: July 20, 2024
Tosin Adarabioyo has admitted that he is eagerly looking forward to the pre-season matches against Premier League champions Manchester City and European powerhouse Real Madrid.
A central defender by trade, he ended a four-year association with Fulham in the off-season, after turning down a deal that could have made him one of the best paid players at the Cottagers.
The Nigeria Football Federation target has been assigned a provisional squad number of 4 for the friendly matches in the United States.
As part of their preparations for the upcoming season, Chelsea will take on Wrexham, Celtic, Club America, Manchester City and Real Madrid in the tour of the United States.
Tosin was on the books of Manchester City for seventeen years and played for them in the Emirates FA Cup, Carabao Cup and UEFA Champions League, making eight appearances in total for the Citizens before moving on to pastures new.
Regarding the pre-season games in the United States, Tosin told Chelsea's official webpage: "It will be interesting to play Manchester City out there. They will be our opponents in the first game of the season in the Premier League, so that will be a good test.
"We’re also playing Real Madrid, one of the biggest clubs in the world. So that’s one to look forward to.
"It will be a great experience to head to America. We have two and a half weeks away and five games against top opposition.
"It will be really useful to prepare for the season and will be great to see the supporters over in North America."
Since his departure from Manchester City, Tosin has met Pep Guardiola's team in four competitive games, and he has lost on each occasion.
