'Don't you bet against Aston Villa' - Oliseh backs Unai Emery's team for success after Onana capture
Published: July 23, 2024
Former Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh has tipped Aston Villa for success following the club's signing of Amadou Onana.
Aston Villa announced the capture of the Belgium midfielder yesterday in a bid to make up for the loss of the departed Douglas Luiz, who they had to let go due to compliance with the Premier League Profit and Sustainability Rules.
Under the tutelage of Unai Emery, Aston Villa qualified for the UEFA Champions League last season for the first time since the 1982/1983 campaign, finishing ahead of Manchester United and Chelsea by doing so.
The Midlands club are trying to maintain the standard they set last season and have beefed up the squad with the signing of Chelsea alum Ross Barkley and Ian Maatsen.
They have also been able to secure the services of Samuel Illing-Junior, Enzo Barrenechea, Lewis Dobbin, Cameron Archer, Jaden Philogene and most recently Onana.
Reacting to the confirmation of their latest signing on X, Oliseh has backed the Lions for success in the coming campaign.
"This transfer deal has the potential to take Unai Emery's Aston Villa, to a totally different level. Be smart, don't you dare bet against Villa this season," Oliseh posted on social media.
Aston Villa may not be done in the transfer market yet, as they may lose Jhon Duran who has been linked with Chelsea and West Ham.
They will need a replacement for the Colombian forward and Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho is being linked with the club as a result.
