2024 Dana Cup: Nigerian teams Blue Ocean and Mailantarki FC face off in mouthwatering quarterfinal clash
Published: July 26, 2024
The 2024 Dana Cup competition will witness two Nigerian teams clash in one of the quarter-final games billed for Friday 26th, July 2024, in Hjorring, Denmark.
Abuja-based Blue Ocean FC beat Flekkefjord FK of Norway 5 - 4 on penalties after they battled to an exciting goalless draw at full time, in their round of 16 encounter.
Meanwhile, Mailantarki FC defeated Onsala BK of Sweden 1-0 to set up a mouth-watering quarter-final game with their Abuja neighbor.
A visibly thrilled Blue Ocean FC's head coach, Bunmi Haruna, says both Nigeria teams have showcased Nigeria's value in a way that money cannot buy.
"I'm very excited with what I have witnessed in Denmark so far. Fans queued up to get autographs from our players after the penalty shoot-out win against Flekkefjord FK," the former Nigeria national U17 team assistant coach said.
"Some of the fans had gone to print the names of our players on the back of new Super Eagles’ jerseys with the players’ unique numbers.
"That tells you how much they enjoyed the games.
"Most of the teams we played have consistently turned up to support us, this is unique, money can't buy it.
"We know Mailantarki very well and I can assure you that after that game, the world will realize that youth football has now returned home to Nigeria."
Blue Ocean FC have scored 19 goals in 5 games and are yet to concede a goal in the competition.
Blue Ocean FC are competing in the U19 category of the 2024 Dana Cup with over 1000 teams from 50 countries in attendance.
