Nigerian defender relishing the opportunity to play at Stamford Bridge as a Chelsea player
Published: July 28, 2024
Nigerian centre-back Tosin Adarabioyo is looking forward to playing at Stamford Bridge for the first time as a Chelsea player when the Blues host Inter Milan in a pre-season fixture on August 11.
The Super Eagles-eligible defender was the club's first summer signing, having been signed to fill the space left by Brazil international Thiago Silva who left as a free agent last month.
He is presently with Enzo Maresca's squad for their United States pre-season tour and has featured in their two friendly games against Wrexham and Celtic.
He was named in the starting lineup against the League One side but came on as a substitute against the Scottish Premiership champions in the second half yesterday, replacing Wesley Fofana.
The 26-year-old will play at Stamford Bridge as a Chelsea player for the first time when the west London club face Inter Milan in their final preseason fixture and is looking forward to that opportunity.
"It will be really exciting. Stepping out at our home stadium in front of the home supporters will be great and hopefully, we'll be able to get a positive result going into the season. It will be a big game against the Italian champions," Tosin told Chelsea's official website.
"Everything between now and the start of the season is about preparing for that first league game at Stamford Bridge so everything is fully focused on that."
A week later, the Anglo-Nigerian defender will then have the opportunity to make his home debut when they host Manchester City on the opening matchday of the new Premier League season.
Before that, he will have to convince Enzo Maresca in the upcoming friendly games against Club América, Manchester City and Real Madrid that he merits a place in his starting lineup.
