Confirmed Super Falcons starting XI v Spain: Oshoala, Abiodun, Okoronkwo in; Kanu on the bench again
Published: July 28, 2024
Nigeria manager Randy Waldrum has announced his starting lineup for his side's 2024 Olympic Games match against world champions Spain at the Stade de la Beaujoire in Nantes, the venue of the Super Eagles' 3-2 win over Spain in the 1998 World Cup, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
After suffering a loss in their opener against Brazil, the Super Falcons must do everything possible to avoid defeat to stand a chance of progressing to the quarterfinals of the Olympics.
The American football tactician has made two changes to the starting lineup, with Bay FC striker Asisat Oshoala and Esther Okoronkwo getting the nod over Chinwendu Ihezuo and Paris Saint-Germain new recruit Jennifer Echegini respectively.
French-based player Chiamaka Nnadozie starts in goal, behind a back four of Michelle Alozie, Ohale Osinachi, Oluwatosin Demehin and Chidinma Okeke.
The midfielders are Toni Payne, Rasheedat Ajibade, Deborah Abiodun and utility player Christy Ucheibe in what looks like a 4-4-2 formation.
Oshoala will lead the line and she will be supported by Okoronkwo, meaning there is no place in the starting lineup for Uchenna Kanu and Ifeoma Onumonu.
Confirmed Super Falcons starting lineup versus Spain: Nnadozie; Alozie, Ohale, Demehin, Okeke; Abiodun, Ucheibe, Toni Payne, Ajibade; Okoronkwo, Oshoala.
