Chelsea retain interest in signing Super Eagles-eligible striker representing Spain at 2024 Olympics

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea still retain interest in Samuel Omorodion but their interest hinges on Atlético de Madrid's stance on his availability.

The Melilla native, who is eligible to wear the Super Eagles jersey through his Nigerian parents, is representing Spain at the 2024 Olympic Games, making his debut in the tournament against Uzbekistan on July 24, 2024.

There have been reports from Spanish media that Chelsea had ended their interest in the talented forward but that has now been said to be untrue by Romano.

The west London side still want to bolster their squad with the addition of a winger and striker and as a result still have Omorodion on their radar but their pursuit will depend on Atlético de Madrid.

The Spanish club had declined a deal close to €40m for the Spanish youth international and are insisting that he is not for sale which could be as a result of the club loosing Alvaro Morata and Memphis Depay.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano is of the opinion that Chelsea could make a late move for the 20-year-old in the final weeks of the transfer window if Atlético de Madrid change their stance.

"It is important to say that another player really appreciated internally is Samu Omorodion. Atlético de Madrid are still not giving green light. Their intentiona has always been to keep Omorodion in the club," Romano said.

"In case this stance could change in the final weeks of the market, Chelsea could be there but it depends on Atletico but Atletico Madrid are saying at the moment that Omorodion is still very happy at Atletico.

"In case this stance changes in the final weeks, Omorodion remains a player really appreciated by Chelsea and don't forget that on Atletico Madrid side, there is as I told you many times really big appreciation for Chelsea player Conor Gallagher.

"One of the dream targets for Atletico Madrid not easy for sure, not cheap for sure but in terms of perfect midfielder decided by Atletico Madrid internally, Gallagher is surely part of their list as we are saying since May."

Diego Simeone's side are in the hunt for another striker and had attempted to sign last season's La Liga top scorer Artem Dovbyk before the deal collapsed which means Omorodion is not guaranteed a starting spot.

Coupled with the Spanish club's interest in Conor Gallagher, a move seeing the Spanish-Nigerian forward join the Blues this summer shouldn't be ruled out.
