Team news: Tokyo Verdy and Feyenoord stars miss team training ahead of Japan v Nigeria
Published: July 30, 2024
Japan women's national team coach Futoshi Ikeda is sweating over the fitness of Tokyo Verdy midfielder Aoba Fujino and Feyenoord defender Tōko Koga before his side's crucial 2024 Olympic Games clash against the Super Falcons at the Stade de la Beaujoire, Nantes on Wednesday evening, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
The duo did not participate in Nadeshiko Japan's final training session on the eve of the meeting against the Super Falcons, with the first fifteen minutes of the workout open to the media.
Fujino and Koga stayed at the hotel to follow an individual training program.
Japan coach Futoshi Ikeda is not totally ruling out the players from tomorrow afternoon's match against Nigeria.
While Toga has started both games played by Japan in France, Fujino was in action against Spain but was not called up for the win versus Brazil.
For the 2024 Olympic Games, the man team will consist of 18 players with four alternates available.
An alternate may substitute for an injured player on the 18-player roster and the injured player can return later, swapping roles with the alternate.
Randy Waldurm's team have zero points from two matches heading into the final group game and are hoping results go their way if they are to have any chance of progressing to the knockout rounds of the Olympic Games.
