Super Falcons starting XI v Japan: Ohale, Oshoala, Ajibade, Okeke start; Echegini returns
Published: July 31, 2024
Manager Randy Waldrum has announced his starting lineup for the Super Falcons' must-win match against Japan in their final group game of the 2024 Olympic Games, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
The American football tactician has made one change to the starting lineup that played against Spain, with Paris Saint-Germain summer recruit Jennifer Echegini replacing Esther Okoronkwo.
Paris FC shot-stopper Chiamaka Nnadozie - Nigeria's standout performer against La Roja - makes her third consecutive start for the Super Falcons at the Olympic Games.
Waldrum has kept faith with the defenders that started against Spain, meaning there are starting berths for Michelle Alozie, Ohale Osinachi, Oluwatosin Demehin and Chidinma Okeke.
Deborah Abiodun and Christy Ucheibe will be looking to pull the strings from a deep-lying position.
Former Liverpool and Arsenal star Asisat Oshoala leads the line with Toni Payne, Rasheedat Ajibade and Jennifer Echegini occupying the other attacking positions.
Wednesday's game between the Asian and African powerhouses will kick off at the Stade de la Beaujoire, Nantes at 1600 hours Nigerian time.
Nigeria have zero points from two matches heading into the final group game and are hoping results go their way if they are to have any chance of progressing to the knockout rounds of the Olympic Games.
Nigeria's starting XI versus Japan: Nnadozie; Alozie, Ohale, Demehin, Okeke; Abiodun, Ucheibe, Toni Payne, Ajibade, Echegini; Oshoala
