Remember the name: Defender-turned-striker Chizzy Ezenwata on target for Chelsea U18s
Published: August 03, 2024
Tri-national striker Chizzy Ezenwata was among the scorers as Chelsea U18s defeated Wolverhampton Wanderers 5-2 in a pre-season friendly on Saturday, August 3.
Born to a Cameroonian mother and Nigerian father, Chizzy is eligible to represent the Super Eagles and Indomitable Lions, as well as England at international level.
He began his career at Tottenham Hotspur academy, where he was deployed in several defensive positions including fullback and centre-back, but converted from defender to striker after joining Charlton Athletic.
Chelsea youth team expert Chelsea Youth has informed on social media that Chelsea U18s recorded another 5-2 pre-season win today, this time seeing off Wolves with goals from Shim Mheuka (2), Ezenwata, Shaun Wade and an own goal, all of them coming in the first half.
Widely recognized as one of the top players in his age group across England, he netted over 100 goals and provided more than 40 assists in all competitions during his two seasons at Charlton Athletic before transferring to Chelsea in August 2023 following a successful trial.
It is likely that Ezenwata will make his competitive debut for Chelsea youth team in the 2024-2025 U18 Premier League if he continues with his impressive form.
He has already agreed a pre-scholarship deal with Chelsea ahead of the 2025-2026 season, which is a testament to the faith the club have in him.
Chelsea U18s, who are coached by Nigerian football tactician Hassan Sulaiman, will begin their campaign in the U18 Premier League with a home game against Brighton & Hove Albion at Cobham on August 17, 2024.
Saheed Olagunju, Tayo Subuloye and Landon Emenalo are age-eligible to feature for Chelsea U18s in the forthcoming season.
