'Jesus is a legend here' - Sevilla new boy Iheanacho praises former Man City teammate
Published: August 06, 2024
Sevilla new signing Kelechi Iheanacho was presented to the media at an unveiling ceremony on Tuesday, August 6.
The Nigeria international joined Sevilla on a free transfer last week, signing a two-year contract with the Andalusian club with a club option for the 2026-2027 season.
Iheanacho has embarked on a new chapter in his career after a ten-year association with English clubs, during which he won the Carabao Cup, FA Community Shield, FA Cup and EFL Championship.
It is anticipated that Iheanacho will settle in quickly at Sevilla, especially since Super Eagles winger Chidera Ejuke and ex-teammate at Manchester City Jesús Navas are already at the club, with Ejuke joining the Rojiblancos on a free transfer this summer.
Iheanacho played together with Sevilla captain Navas in forty-two games during their time with Manchester City, with the Spaniard providing assists for the goals the Nigerian netted against Southampton and Huddersfield Town in 2016 and 2017 respectively.
The 2024 European Championship winner with Spain is a Sevilla icon, having played 687 games for the club to date and has scored a total of 39 goals while providing 119 assists.
In statements made available to allnigeriasoccer.com by Sevilla, Iheanacho has nothing but praise for Jesús Navas, labeling him a legend and leader.
The Manchester City academy graduate said: "Jesús is a legend here. He is an incredible person with a great personality. I've known him for a long time.
"He's a fantastic leader. He has won many trophies in Sevilla's history and I'm looking forward to playing with him".
Kelechi Iheanacho, Sevilla's fifth signing of the summer, was unveiled together with Cameroonian-born midfielder Lucien Agoumé in front of the media on Tuesday morning.
